Academics and Campus Support Committee 2013
There are lots of questions that new students may have, and the Academics and Campus Support committee is here to answer them in a fun and interactive way! Here’s a question, what is the A.C.S. committee? The Academics and Campus Support (or A.C.S. for short if you hadn’t guessed!) is in charge of planning informative, interactive, and fun activities during Orientation Week that are aimed at introducing and familiarizing incoming students with all of the great clubs, services, and resources here at Queen’s! Events such as “Which Resource is Right?” and “Queen’s in the Park” showcase what Queen’s is all about, how it’s here for you and how you can get involved yourself!
Hello class of 2017! My name is Amanda McKenzie and I am the Academics and Campus Support Chair for Orientation Week 2013! I am unbelievably excited to welcome all of you to the ROCKIN’ Queen’s University this September. The A.C.S Committee works throughout the year to plan fun and engaging events to help prepare you for your classes and introduce you to the clubs, resources and services at Queen’s! We hope to provide information to guide you through your entire time at Queen’s and show you the amazing traditions this incredible school has to offer! When I’m not organizing events for Orientation Week, you’ll find me exploring the beautiful and historic limestone rocks of Kingston. I am entering my fourth year of Geological Sciences and someday I hope to become a real “rock it” scientist! Besides all the “gneiss” rock stuff, I am most excited to meet all of you and welcome you to the Queen’s family! Orientation Week is an absolutely amazing experience and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!
HI HI HI EVERYONE! My name is Daniel Krawchenko and I am SO DARN EXCITED to be an O.C this year on the Academics and Campus Support Committee. I can’t wait to see all of your sparkling faces cheering it up on Queen’s Campus (cool frosh totally lost cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer). No my computer didn’t freeze; you will understand soon why I wrote cheer 7 times in a row! A Mississauga kid born and raised, on Queen’s campus is now where I spend most of my days. I am a Politics major with a minor in $A$$. Just kidding, I’m a Drama minor (Sass is just a big hobby of mine). For O-Week 2013 I will be doing Academic Success 101 with my home-girl Sassy Sydney and Which Resource is Right? With my other gal-pal Amazing Adrina. The ACS events this year are gonna be FUN FUN FUN and you do not want to miss out. Please come say hi to me if you see me! I will be rocking some sweet dance moves (seriously I won’t stop dancing). Get ready for a crazy ride Class of 2017!!
Hello there friends! I’m Adrina Zhong and I am so honoured to be your O.C on the beautiful Academics and Campus Support Committee! Yes, you may be in awe that my initials are the first and last letters of the alphabet, I wouldn’t blame you, I’m personally not over how cool it is. Speaking of coolness, I’m heading into my 3rd year as a Life Sciences major and loving every second of it! I consume so much tea and coffee on a daily basis that I’m expecting an intervention from my friends soon. My current obsession is bucket lists, and on the top of that list is to learn how to dougie, so if you know how, PLEASE TEACH ME. For O-week, I’m working on Which Resource is Right? with the dashing Daniel, and Queen’s in the Park with the lovable Lucy! Feel free to give me a shout when you see me, even if it’s to say my shirt’s tag is out, or if there’s spinach in my teeth – which happens more often than you might think! I can’t wait to meet you, Class of 2017! Cha Gheill!
Hi everyone! My name is Lucy Mackrell and I am a Global Development Studies major. I am a part of the Academics Committee and am so excited to be a part of Orientation Week again this year with OC 13! When I am not busy planning Queen’s in the Park with the adorable Adrina and the Non-Academics of Academics with jazzy Jeff I spend a lot of time with the love of my life, Stauffer Library, watching movie trailers, eating yoghurt covered pretzels and taking long walks by the lake. I cannot wait to meet you all and to welcome the class of 2017!
Why hello there!!! I can’t fully put in words how excited I am to welcome you to the Arts and Science Orientation Week. My name is Kristen Mercier and I am on the Academics Committee (with some pretty sassy people) for Orientation Week 2013! I am from the beautiful and picturesque city of Ottawa and enjoy eating entire bags of chocolate chips. I am a history major with some serious love for the Norsemen – aka the kick-butt Vikings of the North. I am also a World Languages Minor! This year I am working on Welcome Forum (With Jeff) and Prof Talk (with Shivani) to bring to you one of the best orientation weeks at Queen’s University. Orientation Week is truly the most wonderful time of year and I can’t wait to share it with you! I have made some of the best memories here at Queen’s during Orientation Week as a Frosh and a Gael and I hope to offer you the best week EVER so that you may be able to make some of your own.
HI class of 2017! My name is Sydney LaPlante and I am absolutely ecstatic to welcome you all to Queen’s University! I am part of the Academics and Campus Support Committee for Orientation Week 2013 and have the great privilege of planning Academic Success 101 (aka the BEST time you’ll ever have learning about academic integrity) and the Traditions Ceremony! I am a Drama major and English minor here at Queen’s and some of my favourite things include tearing it up on the dance floor, songs with saxophone solos, pretending my life is a Disney movie, ellipses, and reading Shakespeare (real life). I cannot wait to meet you all during O-Week and if you see me around don’t hesitate to say hi – I won’t bite!
Hey y’all! My name is Jeff, and I’m so thrilled to be part of the Academics and Campus Support Committee for Orientation Week 2013 and to welcome all of y’all home and to the best 4 years you will ever have! Hailing from M-City (better known as Markham, Ontario) I will be going into my third year in Political Studies this fall! This year I have the greatest pleasure of working on Welcome Forum 2013 with the kray kray kinetic Kristen! So don’t be afraid to ask how we’re feeling amongst the great crowd of yellow! I am also very excited to plan one of Orientation Week’s newer events: The Non-Academics of Academics, with the lusciously licorice loving Lucy (don’t know if she actually loves licorice, you should ask her!). When I’m not fantasizing about Orientation Week, I can usually be found keepin’ healthy at the ARC, browsing foreign iTunes stores, watching Suits, FRIENDS, HIMYM or dodgeballin’ up a storm. You guys are in for one hell of a ride, so be sure to let it sink in and pull up on all the great stops! And two last words to the Class of 2017: welcome home!
HEYYY CLASS OF 2017. HEYY again my friends!!! My name is Brett and I have been given the amazing opportunity to be on the ACScellent and SACsy (excellent and Sexy lmao) Academic Committee (ACS) for Orientation Week 2013. Entering my third year into this amazing school, I will be studying Biology . Oh and of course, I am a Toronto native living in Aurora. Orientation week is my one absolute favorite parts of Queen’s and I am so excited to be working hard to make sure you start your journey at Queens the best way you possibly can. This year I get the chance to plan Art Sci is WHUTTTT with the hilarious and cray Shivani and the famous traditions (where you get your tams!!) with my wonderful women Sydney. Personally, I spend my free time playing sports, chilling, eating, sleeping, and doing the frosh dance (yeeee). Also, I LOVE Greys and a billion other shows so don’t hesitate to chat me up about those or anything else in this world. For now, I am so excited to meet you and I cannot believe this is real. Please feel free to say hi to me anytime if you see me and see you in September. Cha Gheill!!!!!
Oh hey, Class of 2017!! My name is Shivani Srivastava and I am an Orientation Coordinator on the Academics and Campus Support Committee (ACS for short!) for 2013! I’m so ACS-ited to welcome you to the Queen’s and Kingston community this year! Queen’s is very special to me, and I want Orientation Week to demonstrate the incredible sense of community, spirit, and support that Queen’s has to offer. I’m currently entering my third year of studies with a major in Film and Media and a minor in Global Development Studies. For this Orientation Week I am running two events; one is ProfTalk with Kristen Mercier and the other is ArtSci is What? with Brett Allen. Now, I like to consider myself a pretty hilarious and swag-tastic person to be around (I mean, did you notice my ACS-related pun in sentence #2?) but I want you to be the judge of that! So, whenever you see me running or dancing around campus please come and say HEY because I’d love to meet you and entertain you with my jokes! I also like to think that I have a good British accent, so, if you ever want to pretend you’re from England, come and find me! But seriously, I’m honoured to welcome you to Queen’s… :)
